Catch-up

.

Hi guys,
I know its been a while since I've blogged, and I am really sorry, but I have two words that act as an excuse: FINAL YEAR.
I'd heard all the horror stories, listened to all the ranting, and thought "That won't be me. I won't let myself get that stressed" well, here we are, 5 weeks into term, and I am well and truly stressed. (Also, sidenote, I would totally love you all forever and ever if you would fill in my survey for dissertation here. thankssss!)

The last time I blogged I had just spent a brill week in London on placement at Fabulous mag, and spending much needed catch up time with my big sis, and since then a few things have happened.

Firstly, A new haircut
Me and my gorge flatmate

Anyone who follows me on pinterest (if you don't, why not? find me here.) will probably have guessed that I was contemplating a full fringe for a while, as my entire hair inspiration board was filling up with pictures of gorgeous fringes. Once I got back from my girly holiday in Magaluf, I fancied a change and bit the bullet. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but it has taken me about a month to love it, as I was totally unsure at first!

Secondly, A new Job title.
My uni have are launching a new Fashion Website called Fashion North, and I have been named News Editor! I'm super excited to be part of the new site, and totally thankful to have yet another amazing opportunity to put on my slowly expanding CV. I hope to post loads about it closer to the launch, and will definitely try to post about the launch party, but for now follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

But that's pretty much it, apart from a trip home planned and a halloween night out, my next few weeks consists entirely of uni work and shifts in Sports Direct.
Who said Fashion Degrees were glamourous?

High street collaborations continue.

It seems to me, that H&M are unable to stop thinking up ways to get me to love them more! After falling in love first with their Versace collection, then their Marni collaboration, they announced two more collections at the beginning of this month that made me so excited, I barely made it through the month!

Anna Dello Russo will design an accessory line for the brand.

I first heard the exciting news that Anna Dello russo, the brains behind Japanese vogue, was desinging an accessories collection for the brand. Anna is known for her wacky sense of style, and over the top fashion sense, and Personally I can't wait to inject a bit of this into my own wardrobe.
Of the collection, Anna said :"This is the sign of an important evolution in fashion, and I am both thrilled and humbled to be the one chosen to lead it. I wanted to create precious accessories that are impossible to find.  As a stylist I know accessorization is essential: it is the personal touch to any outfit. With these pieces everybody can have fun, turning an ordinary day into a fantastic fashion day!"

This collection launches October 4th, and I can't wait to get in line!

Just as I was recovering from this news, The High Street brand dropped another fashion bombshell on us. A collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela! Eeeeek!
For those of you unfamiliar with Maison Martin Margiela, it is a French Fashion house,  which describes itself as: "iconoclast, avant-garde and experimental, the Maison expresses its creativity through recycling, transformation and reinterpretation - like an emotion, a unique and timeless proposal defying all laws and rules."

This collection launches on November 15 in 230 stores worldwide, as well as online.

I need to start saving.
And go for a lie down, all this fashion excitement has affected me slightly!

Red Soled Shoes.

Tonight sees the launch of the long-anticipated (by me anyway!) exhibition of the work of Christian Louboutin. The exhibition, which takes place from tomorrow (01 May) until July 9th at the Design Museum in London.

When I first heard about the exhibition I was very excited and instantly started planning my attendance the last time I was in London, but I was over-eager and got the dates very wrong! However, I may still have the opportunity to attend and if I do, I will take that opportunity and run with it, possibly dragging my family along for the ride! (Much to my Dad's dismay....)

I have spent the last hour eagerly following the live tweets of the launch courtesy of Elle and Grazia and looking at Pictures on Vogue's website. I need to start saving for my dream pair.

Every fashionista will appreciate Louboutin's work, and most people I know see them as being a work of art rather than just a shoe. From the Iconic, trademark Red soles, to the individuality of every one, the designer himself sees the shoes as special, but has said that one of the difficulties of the exhibition is that the shoes are being viewed as objects and not being worn. "When I am designing it starts from a sketch but is never complete until the moment of seeing it on someone's foot," he says.

Donna Loveday, the curator of the exhibit, wanted to explore the designers inspiration and background story when she started the exhibit twelve months ago. "When we started I knew that women adored his shoes," said Loveday, "but we wanted visitors to come away with an understanding of how he designs, what inspires him, and to look at his work in progress."

Below are some of my favourite shoes being featured in the exhibit.

Silly silly Elle.

I am a self-confessed magazine addict, with Elle being my absolute favourite, and My future dream workplace.
However, right now as much as I love it, I have to admit how utterly stupid they have been, due to comments made in French Elle leading to a race row.

column praised black people for their new trend of dressing smartly, adding that in Obama's America "chic" has become a "plausible option" for a community until now stuck to "street wear". and this isn't the first time that French Elle has been the centre of such scandals, A few years ago, they blacked up white model Lara Stone for a shoot  and it caused an outrage that they were genuinely surprised at.

They are also surprised at this outcry, and the editor has apologised that the piece has been 'misinterpreted'.

Personally, I fully agree with the outcry, and I feel that there are some amazing fashion icons who are black, Michelle Obama being the most famous and high-profile.

I am against this sort of thing being published and allowed through in major fashion magazines, but I certainly hope that Elle survives yet another backlash against it.
